Who we are

Hackney Independent Parent / Carer forum (HIP) is not-for-profit group run by parents and carers for families with disabled children, children with SEN or additional needs, aged 0-25.

We are the recognised co-production partner of Hackney Council, working directly with Hackney Education and related bodies. As a body we aim to improve and create better outcomes by representing the views of parents / carers and their families.

We work directly with education, health and social care professionals and providers, at strategic points in the local authority’s process.

Our work promotes equal and genuine co-production that reflects the lived experience of disabled children and their families. You can get involved and contribute in a way that fits around your family and matches your skill set.

Our work ensures that parent / carer voices are heard at critical decision-making stages, driving improvements that create better outcomes for children and families.

The forum is led by a committee of volunteer parents of children with SEND, who try to ensure parent participation is facilitated and supported by the Council. Our steering group meets bi-monthly to plan and reflect on work.
